Someone recently told me how refreshing it is to see an Asian woman as a superhero. In Japanese culture there's this idea of putting others before yourself, but I've also never wanted to let myself down. Katana and I may not have the same personality, but coming from the same cultural upbringing, we share core values. Samurai are almost always male, so growing up in America I had a hard time figuring out role models. "As a first-generation Japanese American, I've always wanted to play a samurai warrior like my Suicide Squad character, Katana. "It's rare to see an Asian female take on the role of a badass," Fukuhara told Playboy about her Suicide Squad role, as part of the magazine's ongoing "No Filter" feature. She'll be brought to life by Karen Fukuhara, a 24-year-old actress making her own feature film debut.

And come this August, Katana will make her cinematic debut in David Ayer's Suicide Squad. Then in January, DC Comics launched Suicide Squad Most Wanted: Deadshot/Katana, a six-issue anthology series. In May 2015, Katana (played by Rila Fukushima) made her first in-costume live-action appearance on The CW's Arrow. Story plans for Season 2 are being kept under wraps, but even with the upcoming reset, it seems that a confrontation between her and Peacemaker remains an open possibility for the future.Recently, Katana (real name: Tatsu Yamashiro) fans have been getting spoiled. For a character like Katana, who didn't get as much development or exposure in Suicide Squad, the idea of pitting her against one of the most popular characters of the DCU could be just the thing needed to propel her back into it. It has also featured cameos of previously established characters like Amanda Waller and even the Justice League themselves. Peacemaker expanded the DCEU by introducing new characters like Leota Adebayo and Adrian Chase/Vigilante. While Katana hasn't been seen or mentioned in any other DC Extended Universe film since the first Suicide Squad, the "broad but not blanket" reset still leaves the door open for Karen Fukuhara to later reprise her role. With James Gunn and Peter Safron's reset of the cinematic DC Universe commencing after the release of The Flash, Gunn said the film will reset "many things, not all things." This means that certain characters will remain as they were, played by the same actors, and that certain story elements from previous films will carry over and remain canon. Their skill sets may be matched, but it seems unlikely that either one would kill the other in a fight given the ambitious future that the DCU seems to building for itself. They also happen to share mutual beliefs and practices in the pursuit of criminals, having little to no reservations when it comes to killing. Both characters are vigilante anti-heroes with tragic backstories and are highly skilled experts in both weaponized and hand-to-hand combat. While they couldn't be any more different in their personalities, Peacemaker and Katana surprisingly have quite a lot in common aside from their connections with Flag. Of all the possible Suicide Squad members to hunt down and take on Peacemaker, Katana would be one of the more logical choices given her closeness to Flag and her thirst for vengeance. Despite his hesitation in doing so, however, he wasn't above killing him in a fight, having been charged with preventing Flag from leaking the records of Project Starfish. Peacemaker, during the mission in Corto Maltese, was also shown to have a great amount of respect for Flag. Introduced in David Ayer's Suicide Squad, Katana acted as Rick Flag's bodyguard on their mission to take down Enchantress and was shown to be extremely loyal to her friend and comrade.
